Wilson Moir

Climbing at Anthon today, near Mieussy in the Haut-Giffre. Last time we climbed together must have been March '99 in Scotland with a brisk ascent of South-East Gully in Garbh Choire of Beinn A'Bhuird. I say 'brisk' because by the time I got to the bottom of the route Wilson had already soloed the first pitch and the ropes were just dangling there waiting for me to tie-in. Then it was express-trains-ville to the top. Same was true one month before that on Giant's Head Chimney Direct on Lochnagar, that time we both soloed the first pitch before roping up for two steeper pitches. Was great climbing with him because routes were dispensed with in a minimum amount of time and effort, and were reduced almost to a mere formality. And today at 44 years, he's still cranking like a demon. Respect.
