D80 gear

Had some emails from folks recently asking me what gear I'm using, so here it is (click on the photo to get some Flickr notes). Obviously, it's not all about the gear, but one thing's for sure, without any gear then you're nobody. But even with (some modest) gear there's no instant recipe, since the lighting and action are constantly changing quicker than shit off a hot shovel. For the flash technique head over to the strobist blogspot and start browsing big time, like the rest of us.

Set up is,

Nikon D80,
Nikkor 10.5mm/Sigma 10-20mm,
Nikon SB-24 Flash (sometimes two),
Elinchrom Skyports,
Light weight Novoflex flash stand.

A Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 lens is going to land soon, and for a flash stand, the Gorilla pad is probably better for stability/flexibility (but is bigger and heavier). Otherwise I just use my left hand to hold the flash, or someone else's hands standing nearby. Skyports are light, so great for getting the gear up hill, but they're not the most robust pieces of electronics I've ever seen.

Shooting Nikon RAW, developing the image through Nikon's Picture Project then TIFF into PhotoShop for (a little) final fixing/sharpening and de-saturation:-) There's some better NEF developing software to use but I'm not paying for it (yet).
